Timeline

1996

Born in Wayne, Nebraska on July 30, 1996; he weighed 9 lbs 5 oz. and was 21 inches long.  Mommy was in labor for 32 hours and he was born natuarally.  He sat up at 4 months.

1997

He ate his first ice cream cone at 7 months. This is when Malik decided baby food was not enough and it was over after that. He crawled at 9 months and walked 6 weeks later. It was probably 2 weeks and he was running from then on. He got his 1st tooth on July 25, 5 days before he turns 1.  He had his 1st birthday at Grandma's in Denver.

1998
Malik was in his auntie Tanya's wedding, he would not let mommy go down the aisle alone.  Great grandma Lena died, she said Malik was her favorite great grandchild.   His 2nd birthday was in Sioux City, Iowa at Jungle Jubilee.  He was  scared of the big place at first, but loved it then after!

1999

Malik's first cousin Ladi was born.  He went on vacation to Washington D.C.  He was very proud of his mommy for graduating from college.  It was a big deal to say "Congratulations graduate".  He moved to Denver this year, what a change from 3 stop lights in Wayne.  He thought the big buildings were amazing and scary.  His 3rd birthday was at a park in Roxborough where he and mommy lived in the basement.  This is when we learned he was terrified of mice. His auntie Tami got married and he thought the dancing was the best.

2000
He had his 4th birthday at Chuckie Cheese's. He was happy to be in preschool, he enjoyed the blocks, legos, and cars the best.  He was not fond of holding a pencil, let alone writing. He attended preschool at Children of Roxborough where his mommy worked.  He was the only student who had a bit of color.

2001
He had his 5th birthday at Sloans Lake. This was the only time he was able to be on a boat.  His great uncle Terry died on his birthday. This year mommy and Malik were hit by a big van and had to have a rental for 6 weeks.  He thought that was the coolest thing ever!  He went to kindergarten in Roxborough for one week and then transfered to Eastridge.  This is the year that the doctors and teachers learned that Malik was extra special and was a child with ADHD.  Mommy started to work at his school in the Special Education department.  She also worked at ECP in the morning or afternoon, this was not good for Malik.  He did not care for the long day.  This was the year that mommy met Don.

2002
Malik had his 6th birthday at our apartment.  This is the year he was in 1st grade.   He started Boy Scouts and loved all his adventures with them.  Mommy started school to be a teacher.  This is when Malik learned the computer was not his friend, it took time away from his mommy.  Grandma broke her nose and Malik was a great help.

2003
Malik played basketball for the first time this year. He was fairly good at it but did not have try very hard either due to his height.  Tarik was his best friend.  Tarik use to say, "Malik just calm down".  Tarik was there for him through everything, even when everyone was not nice to him.  Malik was wonderful, just had little too much energy for some people.

2005
Malik decided for his 9th birthday he wanted to have a few of his friends and his family spend the day with him.  He chose a chinese buffet for his lunch and wanted everyone to watch Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  The whole family went to the movie.  Then he had a sleep over at our apartment with a few of his friends.  This was much more fun for him than for mommy! This is the year he started school at Northeast Academy Charter School where mommy worked.  He started in one fourth grade classroom and then switched to the other classroom so he could be challenged.  He became the smartest fourth grader and scored highest on the pre CSAP test for math.  This made him very happy.  Christmas was fun for Malik because he received his Nuggets sweatshirt from his Grandma.  He wore this everyday until he passed.  We fought about the day he passed but mommy actually one!

2006
Malik had an awesome time on New Year's eve and New Year's day.  His cousins stayed the night and we all made ginger bread houses.  They each had their own houses, but some of the pieces were missing.  So, Aiden had the kit that was the most messed up.  Malik told Aiden it was ok, his house was hit by Katrina.  This showed how generous and such a caring kid.  He played basketball and loved it!  He was not near as good this time around like he was the first time he played in first grade.  This was because he had not grown into his big body.  Coach use to say more kids need to be like Malik and have such fun with life!  His cousin stayed the night the weekend before he became an ange.  The night before mommy and Malik slept on the floor in front of the fireplace due to Malik saying it was so cold we needed to sleep in front of the fire.  Two weeks before him becoming an angel, Ladi had his birthday at Skate City and he had such a ball!  He had become such a good skater and had fun blowing out Ladi's candles.   Malik became an angel on February 19, 2006 at the age of 9.
